Hey guys, this is Nargan.
While this is not my main piece that I have been working on for the next two weeks I feel like this is an interesting opinion/idea that needs to be shared. With Mania being what looks like one of the best Sonic games ever, and with the soundtrack being total ear candy, this thought enters my mind fairly often: "What if this isn't the only one? What if... There are more on the way?" There is no doubt that this game will be successful and that it will most likely be the one of the best selling Sonic game in the past well, ever to be honest. Like I said this game will most likely do extremely well with fans and critics alike, which begs the question, "Why stop?" People have been clambering for Classic, and now that they've finally got it, they won't be happy if this is the only 2D 90's era platform we ever get. And frankly, I wouldn't be happy either. This needs to be a thing. This can't just fall of the face of the earth. It just makes too much sense to get Stealth and Taxman to make another game in the future. They know how to build these games. And have you seen the Easter Eggs and references that they put into Studiopolis and Mirage Saloon Zone? Their attention to detail is incredible. Because I feel this way about Mania, I'm going to make a bold prediction: Sonic Mania will not only have a sequel, but also have its own trilogy. Mania will have its own branding, just like Modern and Classic Sonic right now. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we got Mania branded merchandise. As these games are most likely in between 3&K and Adventure, they can do as many games as they want since there really isn't any connection between the two. Especially with their two different play styles and the obvious time gap between them. The one problem we have here though is that it's becoming really hard to make new levels for Sonic. Where has he NOT been? Colors covered other planets, Unleashed brought the players to various locales around the world, and Lost World... uh, Lost World did its thing. *** So, what do you guys think? Do you want Mania to be a standalone title or a series? Do you think it could be its own series or continuation of the classic storyline? And lastly do you think that they would have enough ideas and not run out of them? Basically being forced to make repeats of older levels without having a choice? As always thank you guys for reading and have a good day! This is Nargan for the Sonic Spectrum. Be sure to leave your comment and opinion below!

@PushDustIn confirmed also via the translation of the Q&A session from Sonic Team that SEGA plans to introduce a "brand new character" in Project Sonic 2017.
This makes sense due to a new (or old) character being introduced in every anniversary Sonic title. Sonic Adventure 2 had Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) had Silver the Hedgehog, and Sonic Generations had Classic Sonic. Project Sonic 2017 releases for Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC sometime Holiday 2017.
